BREAST AUGMENTATION
Procedure
Description:
Breast enlargement with implants
What To Expect:
Breast Augmentation is typically performed to enlarge small breasts or
breasts that have decreased in size after pregnancy. It is accomplished
by surgically inserting an implant behind each breast.
Usually, a small incision is made either under the breast, around the
areola (the dark skin around the nipple), or in the armpit. A pocket is
created for the implant either behind the breast tissue or behind the
pectoralis muscle.
Preprocedure:
Prior to your surgery, your plastic surgeon will examine the size and
shape of your breasts, the quality of your skin and the position of your
nipples. Depending on your desired results, he will discuss with you the
optimal incision, position and size of your implants. You will also be
given specific instructions regarding what you will need to do in the
days immediately before your surgery.
Postprocedure:
Breast Augmentation is performed as an outpatient procedure. You should
be up and around a day or two after your surgery. Although everyone heals
at a different rate, you can expect that most of the swelling will
subside within several weeks. Many women find that their new figure gives
them a greater sense of self-confidence and their new, natural curves
will let them wear a greater variety of fashions.
